The ELT (English Language Training) class has started a garden on the rooftop! The students are planting beans, lettuce, and many other fruits and vegetables. We're hoping that the garden sparks conversation and healthy eating habits. They are taking turns looking after the plants and everyone is excited to see how they turn out.

Pan-African Association has recently been highlighted by Northwestern University's Medill Reports! In an effort show what role English plays in an immigrant's journey in the US, as well as provide insight into the realities of what students and teachers face in an English Language Training class, reporter, Ryan Connelly Holmes, sheds light on how PAA is addressing these issues and providing assistance to the community.

Giving Tuesday = Great Success!

12/8/2015

On December 1, 2015, Pan-African Association participated in Giving Tuesday, a movement to create an international day of giving at the beginning of the Christmas and holiday season. This was PAA's first year participating in Giving Tuesday and we could not be happier with the outcome. In a single day we were able to raise $4000, something that would have been impossible without the generosity of our supporters. We can't express our thanks enough and the gratitude we feel for your continued donations and encouragement. On behalf of all of the clients and families you have helped and continue to support . . .

As we enjoy the last remnants of summer we know that winter is fast approaching. This means there are going to be many new families in our community who aren't prepared or used to the cold temperatures. We're teaming up with Care For Real and the American Red Cross to help these families get prepared for winter.

Newcomers will learn important information such as how to get their homes ready for winter, what to do in case of a winter storm, how to dress in layers to keep warm, and much more.

When: Tuesday, October 27, 2015

Where:  Care For Real
5339 N. Sheridan Rd. Chicago, IL

Time:  Morning hours - 9:30am - 12:00pm
            Afternoon hours - 1:00pm - 3:00pm

Interested in volunteering for this event or donating clean, gently used winter garments? Contact Sarah, at spietruszka@panafricanassociation.org or (773) 381-9723 for more information!
