Become a Pan-African Volunteer!

Interested in a meaningful volunteer opportunity? The Pan-African Association (PAA) has an ongoing need for dedicated volunteers. Volunteers serve our organization in a number of ways and are an integral part of our organization and helping others to live happier, healthier, self-sufficient lives.


Opportunities:

In-Home Mentoring
Individual mentoring helps clients overcome barriers to self-sufficiency.  Mentors tutor English, assist with job search, help to navigate Chicago, and more. Engage in a two-way cultural exchange as a teacher, advocate, and friend. Minimum 2 hours per week, 6 month commitment; days/times flexible

Group Mentoring
English-as-a-second language sessions twice a week help learners improve from a basic level in a community-focused atmosphere.  With multiple mentors in the classroom, learners receive more individualized attention. Monday or Wednesday evening, 6:00-8:00pm

Job Readiness
PAA Job Developers work to assist clients in finding and obtaining placement in the workforce.  Our staff needs support with research, curriculum development, mock interviews and more. Commitment flexible

Office Support
Assist with administrative duties, research, and special projects. 2-5 hours per week, Monday - Friday 9am-5pm

Research
Research relevant topics to be used as a resource for PAA.  Based on volunteer interest and experience. Flexible commitment

Marketing/Community Outreach
Assist with marketing and outreach material development, web presence and content management, research community partners, and more.  Graphic and web design experience helpful. Flexible commitment

Computer Lab Aide
Monitor computer lab and assist clients with basic computer questions.  Perform regular updates on software and help with special projects upon request.
Minimum 2 hours per week, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Friday

Interpretation/Translation
Translate documents or serve as an interpreter for clients/staff in a variety of settings.  Any African language helpful including French, Kirundi, Swahili, Arabic, Amharic, Tigrigna. On-call, project based commitment.

Workshop Facilitation
Prepare and facilitate a workshop on a relevant topic of your choice in collaboration with PAA staff. Flexible commitment, usually Friday 10am-12pm

Childcare
On-call for special events

Internships
Based on skills/interest of applicant. 10-15 hours per week, Monday-Friday 9am-5pm
